A bit about me

I’m the Founder and Executive Director of TechCongress, which recruits, trains and places computer scientists, engineers, and other technologists to serve with Members of Congress on tech policy matters through our Congressional Innovation Fellowships. To date we’ve placed 112 fellows across the House and Senate.

I worked on Capitol Hill for six years and was the Legislative Director for Rep. Henry A. Waxman, the former Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee and lead author of the Affordable Care Act, Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, and the American Clean Energy and Security Act, the first major climate change bill to ever pass a chamber of Congress.

I’m the Co-Founder of #CongressToo, a group of 1500 former Congressional staffers that brought the #MeToo movement to Capitol Hill and spearheaded a reform overhaul signed into law in late 2018.

Prior to my time in Congress, I worked at the United Nations Foundation as a writer and digital campaigns manager. I started my career on former Senator Majority Leader Tom Daschle’s 2004 campaign in Sioux Falls, SD and as an intern in Rep. Waxman’s office earlier that year.

I have a Master’s in Contemporary European Politics from the University of Bath (UK)— a consortium degree that included semesters at Università Degli Studi di Siena and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. I graduated undergrad in 2002 with a BS in Marketing from Miami University of Ohio.

I took a gap year or two after undergrad, and backpacked through the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, SE Asia, and Central America, and studied Spanish for five months in Antigua, Guatemala.

I’ve served in a variety of capacities for for New Leaders Council over the years, including as the DC Chapter Director and a LEAD trainer for over a decade. I’m a Political Partner with the Truman National Security Project and a 2025 Emerson Collective Dial Fellow.
